The shipwreck in Lichadonissia
The German cement ship has been there since World War II

The wreck of the cement ship PIONEER I located in Lichadonissia and is a pole of attraction for those who visit this famous complex of islands. It is made of reinforced concrete and not wood or iron as we are used to being ships nowadays.
It was a technology developed by the German Army during World War II and served both the production time of such a ship and the lack of steel at the time. The wreck is at the bottom of the area from World War II and information states that when it was bombed it was loaded with ammunition which was intended to supply the occupied islands. The cement ships were launched on the "German Staircase" in Piraeus. More specifically, the upper part of the shipwreck is located at a depth of 9 meters and reaches 16 meters.
